“Wow, a whole year has gone already!!!
For those of you who don’t know, I have been with Pretty Clever for the past year on placement and I’m supposed to summarise how much I have achieved in short couple of paragraphs…. I’m not sure where to even start!
When I first came to Pretty Clever I had 2 years of background knowledge about the industry from my university course and came armed with my professional terms and textbook speak – may I add that I don’t think I’ve used any of these words in real life. Throughout the year I have learnt so much, from generally working in an office environment and working with a team to motivating myself, corresponding in an acceptable manner with suppliers, venues, colleagues and clients, completing paperwork, working to deadlines, invoicing and much much more.
This year has allowed me to gain the most amazing experience in events and I now have that to build on in my future career. I also know where I want to go from here and have been able to make myself realistic goals for both my near and far away future, thanks to both the general experience I have gained and also from the amazing support, guidance and feedback from ‘the Sams’.
One of the most important things I have learned over the last year which I definitely want to pass on to anyone reading this who wants to get into the industry is this: experience is invaluable. So take anything you can get and make the most of it. Talk to your peers and managers and ask for advice on how you can get the very best experience and get feedback on everything you do to allow you to build on that experience and further yourself as a person. If the support you receive is half of what the Sams have provided me with over the last year you’ll have the most amazing experience!”
