They say that when the going gets tough, the tough get going – and cheesy though that might be, it’s true. It would have been really easy for us to say this event in Gloucester was too difficult for us to do last week, with all the adverse weather issues, but it’s not what we’re about. Besides, this event was for the Army, a last Christmas blast before heading off to Afghanistan. Not doing it was never on the cards for us.

Snow isn’t just difficult for event managers when trying to get to venues, it affects all aspects of the event. Performers and suppliers who are dotted around the countryside find it hard to get to the event too, and of course it’s often the case that guests can’t even make it themselves. Catering goes into meltdown as food and drink orders can’t get through and waiting and wine staff can’t make the journey, and suddenly it’s impossible to get anyone on the phone as offices sit empty and roads fill up with unhappy travellers stuck in the snow.

same ‘can do’ attitude as us to a crisis like the one we’ve had this week. We made special trips to London in blizzards to collect the bespoke tablecentres we’d ordered and couldn’t getthrough the roads, we had extra team members on hand to make the trip to help out, found extra beds and extra cars and got there a day earlier and the whole thing came together beautifully.

It’s simply a case of showing what can be achieved when you put your mind to it. And we’re a tenacious lot! For a few pictures of the event and the insane time we had getting there, click here to go to our facebook page.
