They say the best things come in threes, and Alan Sugar’s shock eliminations are no exception.

This week the candidates set out to create their own YouTube channels. The goal was simple: the team who received the highest number of views on their video would win. But giving cold, money driven robots a creative task was never going to be a good idea. We have to remember they are on a different planet where fun doesn’t exist, and what they perceive to be amusement is plain embarrassment for the rest of us…

Two video channels were born. Team Tenacity produced Fat Daddy Fitness Hell, featuring slightly chubby lawyer Felipe intentionally failing to imitate exercise routines. Team Summit offered Dare to Dine, which saw James and YouTube star Oli White scoffing food to a time limit. Original…

It wasn’t just a basic sense of humour the candidates lacked. Despite an average age of 26, none of them seemed to have accessed YouTube before. Perpetually miserable Ella-Jade was confused by the fact their video might need a description, therefore Tenacity lost.

In the boardroom, Ella-Jade brought back scary Sarah and comically sassy Steven. When Lord Sugar had ditched the obvious two he rounded on Ella-Jade, who made an ugly display of begging for her place in the competition. If you haven’t caught up yet, it’s a watch-through-the-fingers job.

As much as I believed Lord Sugar made the right decision, I was gutted to see Steven go. His cartoon expressions and useless pitches will be sorely missed in my household. Sugar also abolished my suspicion that this year’s candidates were originally chosen for entertainment factor. With the rubbish gone, it will be interesting to see how the following weeks pan out…
